Strengthening Cybersecurity for Community Institutions Across Africa

Digital Protection for the Organizations That Bring Communities Together

Resilio Africa is a three-year initiative supporting the cybersecurity resilience of 200 Critical Community Institutions across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. These institutions include hospitals, clinics, schools, libraries, ICT hubs, youth centers, water and sanitation boards, cultural organizations, emergency services, public media houses, and municipal systems.

As digital threats grow and critical services become more connected, these organizations face rising risks without the cybersecurity maturity to defend themselves. Resilio Africa provides free assessments, training, monitoring, incident response support, and access to a regional defense network. Our goal is to reduce cyber risks at scale and protect the millions of people who rely on these institutions every day.

WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS

Critical Community Institutions across Sub-Saharan Africa are increasingly targeted by cyberattacks, yet most lack the resources to protect themselves.

Many operate with outdated systems, limited budgets, low awareness of digital risks, and no dedicated security staff.

At the same time, cyber threats are rising sharply. Africa recorded a 23 percent increase in ransomware attacks in 2023, with public and nonprofit institutions among the most affected. With low regional readiness, CCIs remain vulnerable to phishing, data breaches, and service disruptions.

Because these institutions hold sensitive data and serve entire communities, a single breach can cause widespread harm. This project helps close that gap by giving CCIs the tools, training, and support they need to stay secure and resilient.
